Welcome to my talk page!
|
Congratulations, you are now a bureaucrat
Congratulations, I have just closed your request for bureaucratship as successful and made you a bureaucrat. Take a look at the our bureaucrat policy and admin policy if you haven't read those already. Also, always keep an eye on WQ:RFA, WQ:CHU, WQ:ST, and WQ:AN incase any bureaucrat action or attention is needed from you as you are now a bureaucrat. If you have any questions or if you need help with anything, get in touch on my talk page. — RyanCross (talk) 01:25, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
- :P We don't have a "bureaucrat policy," Ryan, it is just a list of 'crats. :) Anyways, thank you for closing it as successful, and for congratulating me. :) TheAE talk 04:05, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Grats on the flag. Cheers, Razorflame 21:45, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
- Just as I was, as I said, very sorry that I felt I had to vote oppose, in the same way I'm very happy that you're now a bureaucrat. It's right for you to be a bureaucrat because you're a leader on this project. You're able to see things for the future of this project that other people don't see. You make goals like a Christmas main page. Spacebirdy doesn't understand why we want to have our own bureaucrats here, and when I first heard of some of your ideas, like a Christmas main page or even nominating me for bureaucrat, I thought, "but this is a very small project. We don't need that here." But when you make these things happen, then they're real, and they make the project bigger and more interesting. I think it helps more people to want to come here and work on the project. Congratulations, and welcome. ☺Coppertwig(talk) 01:13, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thank for all for the kind words, especially you, Coppertwig. I will do my best should the need arise. :) TheAE talk 02:41, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
Re: Welcome
Thanks, AE! :-) --Dylan Be heard 22:00, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
- I'm happy if you're happy. :-) I'll look up some exemplary quote lists here, read up on policy, and then get to work. Also, I see that SwirlBoy39 is an admin because of your coaching. Do you think that maybe – once I have a nice beefy log of good contributions – you could coach me here? --Dylan Be heard 23:51, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
- We haven't written many policies here yet. I think that for things we haven't written policies for yet, we follow the policies of English Wikiquote, Simple English Wikipedia or English Wikipedia. ☺Coppertwig(talk) 23:55, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, we only have a few policies. The main difference between us and other wikis is out MoS (very useful). And yes, I'd be happy to coach you, Dylan. :) TheAE talk 00:03, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- ... or you can just be bold. ☺Coppertwig(talk) 00:23, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help, guys. :-) I'll get to work soon. --Dylan Be heard 10:34, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- ... or you can just be bold. ☺Coppertwig(talk) 00:23, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
So, let me get this straight...
...SEWQ is the same collection of quotes as on en, only simplified? I got a hint of that by looking at the SEWQ main page. Just trying to learn the first of the ropes here. --Dylan Be heard 19:12, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- There are quotes in English, and then the same quotes translated/simplified in Simple English. See Shakespeare, for example. The quotes in English can be the same quotes as on English Wikiquote, or they can be different. ☺Coppertwig(talk) 00:23, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. But how should the sections be split? For instance, I'm currently planning to make Rocko's Modern Life my first article/quote list here. Should I build it off of a skeleton similar to its page at en, in which each character has his/her own section for quotes? --Dylan Be heard 22:53, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
- I don't know! I suppose doing it the way they usually do it at English Wikiquote is probably a good idea. Or, do it the way that you think works well. (Be bold.) By the way, if you copy things from English Wikiquote, please say in the edit summary where it came from (that is, say that it's from English Wikiquote and say the name of the page there.) That's for GFDL copyright, to give credit to the Wikiquotians who wrote the English Wikiquote page. Thanks. ☺Coppertwig(talk) 14:49, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

RfDs
American Eagle, if you were the one who nominated an RfD and closed it as you did here, it is generally poorly looked upon, even if it was a SNOW closure. Plus, you being a bureaucrat now, it's rather bad. I suggest you undelete the article, revert the closure, and let someone else who has not participated in the RfA close it instead when the closing date comes or when they get the chance to SNOW it earlier. Thank you. — RyanCross (talk) 02:10, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
- At: "Plus, you being a bureaucrat now, it's rather bad" – the two are very different. Bureaucratship is serious. Deleting an unused template which I almost deleted before the RfD (and only wanted outside confirmation) isn't. Ryan, I did see how you edited the page, but didn't vote one way or another, probably planning to close it. I thought about it, but decided to SNOW it anyway. RfD here isn't the same as AfD on English Wikipedia. My only reason for creating the discussion page was to gain consensus before deleting it personally. Now, if you really want me to undelete it, I will, but I think it is completely pointless to undelete a unused template, which was created over two years ago, and every user agreed that I should delete it. At: "...the RfA close it..." – that's just the thing, it wasn't an RfA. Please reply if you do still want me to do it, and why. Thanks. TheAE talk 02:41, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds reasonable. Congratulations, you past the test. ;-) — RyanCross (talk) 03:15, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
- * Phew * That was scaring me. :) I re-wrote the thing several times, to make sure it didn't sounds too defensive. Thanks! ;-) – TheAE talk 03:38, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
- Clearly this was all my fault. Instead of writing "Speedy/SNOW?" I should have deleted the template then. Because I was an administrator who was not the one who had started the TfD, then even though I had voted in the discussion I should have closed it. It was only because I didn't do what I should have done that there was all this discussion and excitement and wikidrama and bad feelings and good feelings. This shows that I'm a bad administrator and a very bad bureaucrat. I should resign as administrator right now, so that I will never again have a chance to choose not to push a button. ;-) ☺Coppertwig(talk) 13:59, 5 February 2009 (UTC) (Friend bureaucrats, notice the wink.)
- Wait a second – you mean we're not supposed to sound defensive?? ☺Coppertwig(talk) 01:40, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I didn't want to sound like I was whining about it. Like, "I'm a bureacrat now and I can do whatever I want. Leave me alone!" That is what I meant. :P TheAE talk 02:05, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- I was just trying to make a joke! I wasn't trying to criticize you at all! You should have been able to see that! Why do you think I put a smiley in my signature all the time? (There: does that sound defensive yet? :-) ☺Coppertwig(talk) 02:11, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- You and your jokes, Coppertwig. :) I do not think you are a bad or very bad administrator/bureaucrat, but you need to work on your defensiveness and whining. :P TheAE talk 02:39, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- OK, I'll try to spend more time being defensive and whining so that I can learn how to do it better. ;-) ☺Coppertwig(talk) 17:13, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Happy Valentine's Day!
Hello!
American Eagle, I, Dylan Be heard, hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day this year. This greeting and the holiday today both promote WikiLove, and this greeting has hopefully made your day better. You can further spread the love by adding {{subst:User:Dylan620/Valentine'sDay09}} to the talk pages of whom are your friends, whom you respect, whom you have disagreed with in the past, or simply random users. Again, happy Valentine's Day!My Bot
My bot, SBot39 has made some test edits, and I would like the bot flag please. Thanks. ѕwirlвoy ₪ 00:04, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
- Alright, I have given it the flag. The reason for the delay was that I wanted to form a bit of consensus at Simple talk for the flag first. But, after the test edits, and no objections by the community, I have granted it. Please, if you can, tell a little bit about the bot on its userpage (what it's for, what programming it uses, etc.). Thanks for setting it up here! TheAE talk 02:13, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
Thank you
Thank you for notifying me to the logo change.--Tdxiang 02:48, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Notability criteria of quotes
Hello, dear American Eagle. May I ask if there is any notability criteria as to what kind of quotes can be placed on articles?-- Tdxiang 15:24, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
My retirement
Thank you for your kind words. I am no longer an administrator. Cheers! ѕwirlвoy ₪ 03:15, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
Hi AE :). May I suggest you remove this image from your userpage? It's quite a large file and makes the page load very slowly. Maybe you can trace it to SVG or something, but as gif it takes a long time on my computer to load. Is the problem solely with my computer, or does it load badly on yours too? If the latter, you would be better off removing it to users visiting your userpage. Jonas 68.96.213.118 22:19, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, I removed it. I have fast internet connection, so it loads fine on my computer. By the way, why won't you just use an account instead of IP messages? TheAE talk 22:50, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
- I'm really not interested in contributing here, because I still feel it should be shut down, as every person here has English as their native language. I communicate with the editors however and there may be some things that I need to notify people of. Thank you for removing it, btw.
- I use a broadband connection, however it still takes some time to load. I don't use a laptop, however; I use a desktop computer that was bought 8 or 9 years ago. Jonas 68.96.213.118 22:54, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Request
Please delete my user page and user talk page. Thank you. 02:51, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- Done – Userpage deleted, talk page blanked (see edit summary). TheAE talk 03:11, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks
Thanks for welcoming me, it was much appreciated. Could you perhaps take a look at some of my efforts at translating, and tell me if the language I use is "simple" enough? I'm pretty new at this "simple talk" stuff, and could do with a few pointers. Cheers, Tempodivalse @en.wikinews 22:59, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help and encouragement! This wiki looks like it could do with a few more volunteers, so I think I'll try to help out some when I'm not busy at Wikinews. Cheers. Tempodivalse @en.wikinews 02:33, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
AutoWikiBrowser
Please can you add me to Wikiquote:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage? I use it on Wikipedia so it might be useful here. Thanks. GT5162 14:00, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism templates
Are vandalism templates necessary? I see that you deleted Category:Vandalism templates with the summary "Empty category", but according to Wikiquote:Blocking policy, "Users should be warned with appropriate warning templates before administrators block them". Would you like me to create the templates, or does the blocking policy need to be changed? GT5162 (talk) 18:20, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
- We do have some at Category:Vandalism and warning templates (but you are free to create more). I have fixed the link at Wikiquote:Blocking policy. Hope this clears it up. ;) TheAE talk 18:27, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
- Also, please see my report at WQ:AN. User:JarlaxleArtemis was created today and should be blocked as an inappropriate username. GT5162 (talk) 18:32, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for adding {{QOTD}} to the articles I chose. I haven't done this in so song, I forgot to add those. — RyanCross (talk) 23:08, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

QOTD
Hi. Could you please be a bit more careful in selecting QOTDs? This was unacceptable in terms of POV. Thanks, –Juliancolton | Talk 18:11, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm... I think I understand, but I also believe I disagree. We aren't required to make quotes NPOV. We 'quote' what people say. Perhaps you are meaning we need to choose some quotes that give a liberal POV, and some republican POV (etc.), for neutrality. That I would generally agree. But we don't censor what people say, and the quotes don't have to be non-controversial. Explain otherwise, if you want... =) TheAE talk 13:41, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- "Nobody is pro-abortion" is absolutely untrue, not to mention strongly biased. In general we should keep religious/politically-slanted quotes off the main page. –Juliancolton | Talk 17:24, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- There are some things that just aren't appropriate for the main page. Quotes about such controversial and sensitive issues are always to be avoided. Thanks, PeterSymonds (talk) 17:25, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- Fine then, I'll try to be careful. TheAE talk 03:16, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

bot
Do you really use a real programing language for your bot (User:AEBot). Erwin Springer (talk) 20:09, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yes. Well... sort of. I used pywikipedia (see meta:Using the python wikipediabot for explanations). It is fairly simple to use if the bot's owner has a good understanding of the Wikipedia interface (which must've been why I was stumped :P ). I haven't been running it very often lately... it slows my computer down a lot. :D God bless, TheAE talk 02:05, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Farewell
I'm sorry to see you leave, you were a very valuable contributor to this project and other wikis. I don't know what we're going to do without you. I would like to thank you for your many contributions to this project, without you this Wikiquote would not have been where it is today. Best of wishes, Tempodivalse 15:33, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

- Thank you for your wonderfully extensive contributions. I enjoyed working with you and will miss your cheerful input. I hope you'll have a satisfying and beneficent experience in the areas of life you're choosing to spend more time on. I've also been cutting back on the timw I spend on Wikipedia. All the best to you. ☺Coppertwig(talk) 13:58, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- Again, I only echo the above messages of thanks. I left my long, personal note at SEWP, so I'll just say that SEWQ would be closed today without you. Shapiros10 (talk) 02:38, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
